Join Walk Local on this amazing active holiday discovering the joys of Italy on foot.  For centuries pilgrims, traders and armies have travelled this unique road – “The Via Francigena” to Rome. Now you can follow the same path, immersed in fabulous scenery, UNESCO World Heritage cities, eat delicious regional Italian food and meet the locals on this 8 day walk from the walled city of Lucca through the heart of Tuscany to Siena.  This is your chance to be a part of  1000 years of history – the ultimate slow travel option.   Feel fit and full of life on The Via Francigena.

On our walk to Siena, we stay in a variety of accommodations.  From Monasteries, B & B’s, small hotels and Agriturismo where there will always be hot showers, comfy beds and wonderful hospitality.

Food is a highlight in Italy. Three meals a day are provided.   Like the Italians,  start the day with a fresh pastry and a cappuccino in the local bar; rustic picnic lunches made up of local produce such as pecorino cheese, wild boar salami, prosciutto, the freshest tomatoes, local wood-fired bread and locally grown olives are eaten on the trail or we eat a ‘workers’ lunch at a little village Osteria; and at the end of the day join the locals in fabulous trattorias where they serve seasonal, fresh, regional favourites, washed down with the local wine from the area.

There is plenty of time to explore each town’s rich history, enjoy Aperitivo (pre-dinner drink) and sit back and reflect on your day walking. There will be museums, art galleries, fabulous frescoes in 13th Century churches, winery visits, olive oil tastings, a cooking class, music concerts, and local guides to give first-hand knowledge.

Walk with Accredited Italian Tour Guides and you will have an amazing Italian experience. Immerse yourself in real Italy, walk local, eat local and sleep local. You will arrive in Siena feeling fit, healthy and full of the joys of Italy in the process.  

Luggage Transfer: Most of our walkers carry their own packs but for a small fee we can arrange for your luggage to be transported between your daily accommodation. Due to space restrictions, each participant is limited to one medium-sized piece of luggage and a small carry-on bag.

Special Event Tickets: Museum entries, historical site tickets, Wine tastings, garden tours, concerts, garden visits, local guides etc. as outlined in the itinerary are all included.

Airfares to and from Italy, airport taxes and departure fees, visas, or any items of a personal nature, laundry, phone, luggage surplus charges, medical expenses, bar, tips etc. are not included.
